Sean McHaney is an artist based in Reno, Nevada, whose work spans portraiture, horror art, and paleo-inspired imagery. His practice is driven by a fascination with the full spectrum of human experience, exploring both the beauty he sees in the people around him and the darker, more unsettling aspects of life. Through his horror art, he reflects on mortality and the presence of darkness alongside beauty, while his paleo-inspired works celebrate Nevada’s ancient natural history, including the Ichthyosaur and other prehistoric life.

Born in August under a waning moon, Sean has been passionate about making art from a young age. He studied at The Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, and the Truckee Meadows Community College Arts Program in Reno, Nevada, describing himself humorously as an “art school drop-out” in homage to his artistic hero, Vincent van Gogh.

Sean’s work has been featured in multiple Midtown Art Walks in Reno, as well as in two Truckee Meadows Community College Student Art Shows, where he earned 2nd place overall and 3rd place in the Painting category. He has also served on the board of the David J. Drackulich Foundation.
